Checking in - TGIF

Friday - grey, rainy and humid here along the ocean. Fall weather is coming back in today and I will be glad for the cooler temps, even if it ends my deck sitting days.

Had IV fluids on Wednesday and started trying to take the potassium supplements that my doc prescribed. As of today I can't seem to keep them down so I don't know how much good they are doing me overall. Staying quiet - reading The Shipping News (bailed on A Wrinkle in Time - can't seem to read that book and stay interested), watching movies (Letters From Iwo Jima recently). Not sleeping and passed out again slamming into the door frame on the way down (ouch!). I'd be crying but I am too busy laughing about all this.

Tonight I want to head out to Wellesley to meet Marty, visit some old friends and maybe go out for dinner (which I can't really eat). The day will determine if it will be at all possible to go out there.

Right now it's a fine morning for music and deck sitting (until the rain starts again).

Hope you have a good weekend!

BTW - My new favorite quote - read it and laugh with me!

come on, just look around
we are surrounded by a bunch of f**king clowns! - Duncan Sheik

Darkness comes

Another flare up of my condition. I have lost 12 lbs in about a week and am having trouble keeping food or water down. I passed out and hit my head pretty good so I know that I have to take it alot slower until this passes. Saw the dr. on Wednesday - low b/p and low potassium levels. I go back on Wednesday to be rechecked.

Beautiful late summer weather - 80's and sunny. Spending time on the deck as I can. I have seen many cruise ships go in and out over the past weeks - I love that. Right now the Carnival Victory is sailing out, all lit up.

Finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha, watched the movie and started reading A Wrinkle in Time.

Another Day in Paradise

It's sunny and warm already this morning.

I was up at 8 a.m. putting the produce away from Haymarket and making the coffee. I am drinking a decaf/chicory blend that I make - decaf beans from Costa Rica mixed with Cafe Du Monde Ground Coffee & Chicory. Anyways that has been the start of my morning and now I am wondering if it will be another day of air conditioning. I am ready for fall weather and to be done with the heat/humidity. Alittle rain would even be welcomed by me.

Marty moved over to a new larger department. He started today and we are both relieved and happy that he has this position. This will help him in his future advancement in the company and he gets to work again with old friends.

Last week was spent in Dennisport on Cape Cod and the weather was spectacular. My daughter rented a condo with a pool and we spent every day out at the pool. We cooked at the unit rather than eating out and enjoyed our time. A week always flies by and we were all home before we knew it.

Had my allergists appointment - no news there. I did test positive for an allergy to cochroaches but otherwise I was fine. The doctor ordered the blood tests for celiac but I don't think that those showed anything either. So for now we have no explanation for why I am reacting to shellfish and certain fruits with hives and an itchy throat.

Today's agenda is a simple one - clean the house, prep the produce and make some lemonade. I plan on reading a good book and spending some time out on the deck once the sun passes over this afternoon.

Rainy Day Blues

A rainy, cold day here along the ocean. Windows are open for the breezes.

I am sick again - really sick. Fever, aches and the usual autoimmune stuff (rashes) that keeps me in bed. I hate living like this and some days it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am being sent to an allergist on the 22nd to find out why I am having allergic reactions to food now.

Weight is holding steady these days. I am forcing myself to eat once a day. I am drinking limeade or lemonade and water every day. I am struggling now since it is prime farmer's market season and I can't eat the fruits & veggies that I love - corn, melon, greens.

Tomorrow the sun will be shining, it will be clear and warm and God willing my fever will be gone. I will head to the beach for the afternoon if I can.

I am heading to Cape Cod at the end of the month with my daughter. I am praying that I can do this trip and not ruin it for her. My doctor and I have discussed no more airplane travel for the next 6 months since my trip to Arizona in June was so rough. I hope that the trip to the Cape is better.

Married Life

I am married again.

A quiet ceremony on July 12th with family and friends. Nice weather, beautiful vows, great food afterwards. Simple, quiet, legal and over with quickly. Much different than my first wedding in every way.

Not much has changed except for a feeling of security. I fought against getting married for years. Didn't want to make that commitment again and have it fail.

I am glad that I am married now.

Sunday - At Home

Beautiful weather today - 70's, sunny, breezy. Sat on the deck with coffee and the Sunday Boston Globe until I went for breakfast with good friends.

What did I have? My favorite breakfast of over easy eggs, corned beef hash, whole wheat toast and potatoes with coffee, oj and 1 blueberry pancake. Simple, good food.

Here's how things went since I got home:

I got home on Tuesday afternoon. 97 & humid in Boston when I arrived (yeah!), got my bags and headed to the house where it was not as cool as I had hoped. After closing windows, turning on ceiling fans and a/c units I had chinese food and hung out with my family. It was a good night to be home.

Wednesday - Another hot & humid day in Boston and I had a million things that I needed to get done. Went to apply for the marriage license and get the wedding rings. Stopped by my doctor's office to pick up some prescriptions and get those filled and indulged in my favorite beverage - an iced vanilla latte with whipped cream on top. Then it was over to Whole Foods Market to buy a few items including food for dinner and home.

Saturday I went out and bought my wedding dress at Talbots. It's incredibly beautiful and I am so glad that I found it.

And last but not least I found out that I suddenly have developed an allergy to lobster!!! I didn't even think that it was possible to get an allergy to something that you have eaten for the past 30 years but apparently you can and I did. Now I am wondering if that means no more shrimp, crab and clams either....

Tonight I am heading out on the deck with cheese (herbed goat cheese, l'edel de cleron), crackers, garlic dip, pretzels, chipotle cashews and Harpoon Hefeweizen Raspberry beer. Our good friends are coming over for awhile. After that it will easy dinner - steak, corn on the cob and potatoes.

Summer is here and the deck is officially open!

Travelling Music - MP3 Player is on shuffle

Here's the current track:

It's five o'clock in the morning
And you're just getting in
A knock upon the door
A voice sweet and low says(who is it?)
She opens up the door
And she lets you inAnd never once does she say"where have you been?"

She says,"Hold it,
Are you hungry,
did you eat yet,
Let me hang up your coat now"
And all the time she's smiling
Never raises her voice
It's five o'clock in the morning
And you dn't give it a second thought

The sweetest woman in the world
Could be the meanest woman in the world
If you make her be that way
She might be holding something in
That's really gonna hurt you
One of these fine days

There you are in the hospital
Bandaged from foot to head
In a state of shock
That much from bein' dead
You didn't think your woman
Could do something like that to you
You didn't think she'd got the nerve
Actions speak louder than words
Louder than words
Louder than words
Louder than words,
come on
Come on,baby,baby
If you don't give a damn about me
Come on baby,baby
If you don't really care about me
